Squeeze Toy Suggestion
LSC reference: CM.ex.1.06
You mention a "squeeze to that makes different noises" as a possible element of the Childhood Communication Development exhibit. My suggestion would be to create an interactive toy which is "programmable" by even a very small child. This gives room for a child to create, not just listen and learn from an environment. It's more of a constructivist approach. An example of this is below. As you squeeze the bird, a "chirp" is made which varies in pitch depending on how hard you squeeze. When you play back the chirp, it repeats the "custom" chirp that you have made. I will bring this prototype to the meeting.
